In paragraph 5 of my Confidential Despatch of

the 26th. January I stated that the estimated expenditure on the prismers of war during the year 1916 would be about $250,000. The figures I have given above show that the cost will be about 8183,000 for transport, and $140,000 for maintenance or a total of $323,000. The sum of $140,000 is arrived at by adding together the expenditure incurred for the first five months of the year $32,428 and 82,390 in colums 1 and 2 of the estimate and

£10,500 or a little more than $105,000.
